At its core, The Energy Commons is a student-led initiative which aims to make renewable energy both – more sustainable and relatable for rural communities in India. Conceptualized from the belief that clean energy transitions must start with local understanding; the initiative looks forward to beginning by engaging directly with village households; assessing existing energy patterns and practical needs.
Through this, TEC hopes to then co-design solutions that work with the community like
building awareness, creating training tools for Self Help Groups and identifying technologies that suit the region’s geography and lifestyle. Furthermore, the project is also keen on arranging youth-centric field visits to renewable energy sites that inspire future interest and employment within the sector.
Therefore, by combining research with community engagement and small-scale implementation, TEC aspires to shift better energy from being a future goal to a present day, achievable resource that is proudly owned, appreciated and maintained by the very people it is meant to serve.
